Class Description

Mini Movers

Mini Movers is a class for the youngest of dancers. This class is designed to get your littles dancing, improving balance, learning to move their bodies in fun safe ways and exploring the very basics of ballet and tap.

Our teachers will lead student through stretches, fun exercise, dance games, actions and dance moves. The students will also spend time learning to very basics to tap and ballet. Students will also learn to incorporate different props into their dance routines.

Ballet

Ballet is a form of dancing in which “conventional poses and steps are combined with light flowing figures” It will help dancers find their center of balance, gain strength and agility and move gracefully.

In our ballet classes, our students will have time for warm ups, barre work, center floor work and work on ballet combinations for their appropriate level.

Jazz

“Jazz dance is a social dance style that emerged at the turn of the 20th century when African American dancers began blending traditional African steps with European styles of movement.” Some elements of jazz dance are isolation movements, precise movements of the body and a variety of jumps and turns. Jazz dance is a diverse and energetic style of dance.

In Jazz, our students will do strength building and safe stretching to help with leaps, jumps, floor work etc. etc. This class will be mostly across the floor and center floor work along with learning combinations to help them learn and remember choreography quickly.

Contemporary

Contemporary dance is an expressive and versatile dance style that blends modern, jazz, lyrical, and ballet. Contemporary dance emphasizes fluidity, improvisation, and individual self-expression, often utilizing floor work, unpredictable rhythms, and raw emotion.

Tap

Tap dance is a dance style characterized by tapping sounds made with the feet. Students will learn to make audible beats by rhythmically striking the floor using their feet.

During tap class, our students will have a number of foot warm ups they go thru, tap barre and center progressions along with tap combinations.

Technique

Students will focus on strengthening exercises for the whole body and proper technique of a variety of turns and jumps. Learning good dance technique is essential to a student’s success. Good technique will ensure a dancer’s longevity, help prevent injuries, build strength and flexibility, and refine movement quality.

This class is not in our annual recital.

Adult Ballet

Adult ballet is 100% a beginner class for the adult who has little to no dance experience. This class will slowly guide you through barre, center floor and across the floor work.

Athletic wear is highly encouraged. Please no jeans. Ballet shoes or a yoga sock is recommended for footwear.

Pointe

Pointe is offered to our current ballet dancers in I/A classes or higher. Without proper skill, strength and muscle/bone development your dancer can risk injury attempting Pointe before they are ready.

*This class is by recommendation only or approval prior to registering.

All pointe shoes must be professionally fitted at Tutus and Dance shoes by appointment only, after approval of the teacher.

Hip Hop

The Hip-Hop dance style isn’t limited to just one style, like krumping, breaking, or popping and locking. Instead it’s a mix of all of those styles and more! It’s an approach to choreography that is consciously in tune with the music and beats without being defined or limited by some of its unique characteristics, like freestyling or the cypher
